Five minutes, done right

Before you touch the charts

Nearly every exchange we process traces back to a rushed measurement, not a wrong chart. These four habits - the same ones our tailors use - make your numbers trustworthy.

No tape at home? A length of string and a wooden ruler work exactly as well - measure with the string, then lay it flat.

  1. 01

Use a soft tape, held snug

A tailor's tape, not a metal one. It should sit against the body without pressing in - you want the number the cloth will live at, not the number you can squeeze to.

  2. 02

    Measure over thin clothing

A t-shirt is fine; a sweater is not. For the daura suruwal, measure as you'd dress underneath it on the day - traditionally a light cotton layer.

  3. 03

Borrow a second pair of hands

Chest and shoulder measurements taken alone drift by an inch or more. Stand naturally, breathe out, and let someone else read the tape.

  4. 04

    Write down inches and centimeters

Our charts show both. Recording both at measuring time means no conversion mistakes later - the single most common sizing error we see.

How traditional wear fits

Three things Western sizing won't tell you

The daura fits close, the suruwal flows

A daura is cut trim through the chest with its eight ties holding it smooth - it should feel tailored, never tight. The suruwal sits loose at the thigh and tapers sharply to the ankle. If the chest is right, everything else follows.

A topi is measured at the brow

Run the tape around your head just above the ears and eyebrows, where the rim will sit. A correct topi holds with gentle, even pressure - you should feel it, then forget it. Between sizes, go up; a folded paper band inside adjusts down easily.

Handmade shoes break in, not out

Velvet mules and embroidered sandals are stitched on traditional lasts that soften with wear. They should be comfortably snug on day one - leather and velvet relax about half a size over the first weeks, and never shrink back.

Measurements

Find your perfect fit

All measurements are a guide - handwoven pieces carry small, natural variations. When you are between sizes, size up for traditional wear, or reach out and we will tailor to your exact measurements.

How to measure

  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level under the arms.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape comfortably loose.
  • Sleeve: From the centre back of the neck, over the shoulder, down to the wrist.
  • Length: From the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the desired hem.

Dhaka Topi - Size Chart

The Dhaka Topi should sit snugly above the ears. Measure your head circumference and match it to the nearest size.

S21.5" (55 cm)Small

L23.5" (60 cm)Large
XL24.5" (62 cm)Extra Large

Topis have a little natural give in the weave for a comfortable fit.

How to measure

  • Head: Wrap the tape around your head, just above the ears and eyebrows, where the topi sits.
